Web Browser Smackdown: IE7 vs. Firefox 2 vs. Opera 9

ExtremeTech has a comparison of the 3 latest offerings of web browsers.

“So, three new browsers in the same year, after no action for a half decade. How do they stack up? We do a comparison of features, usability, memory, and disk usage to help you decide which you should spend your hard earned…oh wait a minute, they’re all free, so you can pick the one you want without worrying about out of pocket.”

I have tried both Firefox 2 and opera 9..both are impressive..
Firefox 2
-gain some advantage for its support for wide range of extension and add ons.
-it is very stable, and extremely customizable
-its loads web pages impressively fast..
-very easy to use (even for new user or novices)
-small size of installer file (easy to download)

Opera 9
-previously it cost a bit..but now it come for free
-very fast execution (compare to Firefox)
-its loads web pages impressively fast..(a bit faster than Firefox)
-have a lot of built in functions (Firefox only can get them through add ons)

i agree that both browser have advantages and disadvantages over both..but u’ll not regret for installing and using them..yes believe me..

I’ve used all three browsers. IE is the big loser for me. It’s too slow, and cumbersome, and doesn’t have nearly the amount of features Opera and Firefox do.

In regards to Opera and Firefox, I prefer Opera. I’m running Vista 64bit and Firefox seems to crash quite often, especially when attempting to launch streaming media. I had this problem occassionally in Firefox running Windows XP 32bit, but in Vista 64bit, it’s just much worst. Opera does not have this problem at all.

Opera also uses much less system resources than Firefox does, and that’s a winner for me. I miss some of the Firefox extensions such as Gspace and my Foobar toolbar, but the stability problems made me switch.

I did try the alpha of the Firefox 64bit and was quite impressed by it’s stability and speed, however with no 64bit Flash available, it’s no a viable solution right now.

For the moment, I’m sticking with Opera, but I plan to review them all again when 64bit versions are finally released (and hopefully a 64bit version of Adobe Flash plugin as well).
